Description
Lesson 1 (50 min)
- Introduction to the concept of Natural and Cultural Heritage (traditions, practices and expressions passed down from generation to generation, such as music, festivities and dances, among others).
- Explain that Fado is an example of Heritage, recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
- A guided conversation with the students about other traditions or cultural practices that are considered intangible cultural heritage.
- Watching videos using immersive reality glasses.
- Observation of images and videos associated with Fado, such as Portuguese guitars, fado singers (like Amália Rodrigues or Mariza), Fado houses in Lisbon, the historic neighbourhoods of Alfama and Mouraria, among others.
Lesson 2 (50 min)
- Practical Activity: Create an illustration or visual composition inspired by Fado (students can choose to draw guitars, abstract images that represent the emotions of Fado, such as longing and melancholy, or portraits of fado singers).
Additional Information
- Articulation with the subject areas of History and Geography of Portugal and Music Education.
- Propose the use of colours to convey feelings (e.g. dark tones, blues, greys) in the illustration or visual composition, or the use of abstract or figurative shapes to express movements or emotions in Fado.
- Offer alternatives for expression (drawing, painting or collage);
- Individualised support for students with special educational needs;
- Valuing effort and creativity over technical perfection.
